Meet Lars Torstenson

Our Winemaker

We are both happy and proud that Lars Torstenson has returned as the Chief Winemaker at Domaine Rabiega, the vineyard he made world famous during his previous stay here between 1988 – 2005.

During his first period of time at Domaine Rabiega, the estate wines received numerous awards and top marks both in France and internationally. La Revue de Vin de France, Guide Bettane Dessauve, GaultMillau, Decanter, Wine, Vine, Wine anorak, Wijnpress, Alles über Wein… they’ve all given this reputable estate’s premium wines Clos Dière the highest possible scores.

After leaving Domaine Rabiega in 2006, Mr. Torstenson has worked as a consulting winemaker in many countries, notably France, USA, Bulgaria, Argentina, and Sweden. Since 2009 he is also co-founder and partner of Terrific Wines, a Swedish wine import company, which in 2019 was named Importer of the Year by Swedish wine critics. 

“Our largest market was the Michelin star restaurants between Monaco and Marseille and our wines were sold to a dozen countries, including the USA and Japan. It is reasonable that we will get there again. In practice, this means that the old premium wines will return, and that we will create new top wines that take us further into the future”, concludes Lars Torstenson, who was named Vigneron de l’Année by GaultMillau for his fine work. He has also received awards such as Winemaker of the year (Gourmet), Gyllene Glaset (Allt om Mat) and the Swedish Wine Academy’s prestigious award.

His popular blog vinifierat.se was in 2017 awarded Drink Blog of the Year, and his book Vinprovning was named Drink Book of the Year in 2011 by Måltidsakademien, the Swedish Meal Academy.
