Our history
A domaine with a long winemaking tradition
The story of Domaine Rabiega stretches back centuries. Nestled in the Provençal countryside,
the estate has been connected to wine and agriculture since the 16th century, shaped by the
landscape, the climate and generations who cultivated the land.
The Modern Era Begins
The modern history of Rabiega began in the 1960s, when Mrs Christiane Rabiega started producing wine under the Rabiega name, laying the foundation for the estate as it is known today. In 1986, the Swedish company Vin & Sprit acquired the property. At the time, the company held the Swedish monopoly on wine imports and saw Rabiega as an opportunity to deepen its understanding of winemaking by operating its own vineyard in Provence. The estate became a place where knowledge, curiosity and craftsmanship could grow side by side.

Craft, Vision and International Recognition
A new chapter began in 1988 when Lars Torstenson was appointed winemaker. With dedication and a clear vision, he played an important role in elevating the quality and reputation of the wines. International recognition followed in 1993, when a Syrah-based prestige cuvée from the 1990 vintage — Clos Dière Cuvée I — achieved great success in an international wine competition. The result helped establish Domaine Rabiega as one of the notable wine estates in Provence during a time when several producers in southern France were redefining the region’s reputation for quality. Regions such as Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon were increasingly recognised for wines that could stand alongside the classic French appellations.
A Change of Hands
In the early 2000s, Vin & Sprit began focusing on its core business. Following Sweden’s entry into the European Union in 1995, the company gradually lost its monopoly position as a wine importer, while its spirits business — particularly the international success of Absolut Vodka — grew in importance. In 2005 it was therefore decided that Domaine Rabiega would be sold, and Lars Torstenson left the estate. The property was purchased in 2006 by the Åkesson family, who had previously operated Kronovall Castle in southern Sweden. After several years, the estate was sold to a French owner who later passed away in 2017, and the property once again became available.

A New Swedish Chapter
A new Swedish chapter began in 2020. After a period of careful planning and development, the estate was acquired by Gastrodev Vin & Sprit AB, a Stockholm-based company. Since July 27, 2020, Domaine Rabiega continues its story under Swedish ownership — honouring its long winemaking tradition while evolving as a place where wine, hospitality and the Provençal way of life meet among the vineyards.
